Based on the proven and well-known concept by Jörg Mangold (child and adolescent psychiatrist, mindfulness teacher and author of the book Wir Eltern sind auch nur Menschen! – There is no translation of the book into English yet!).
Now also online in English! The entire course can be followed from home!
As parents, we are particularly at risk of falling into optimisation traps and overburdening ourselves in our concern for our children and the understandable desire in our hearts to do everything as well as possible. The world around us often demands high performance and constant optimisation. It seems to be getting more and more difficult to reconcile one’s own demands on life organisation, career, leisure time with family, parental role and partnership.
This gives rise to the desire for more serenity, less stress and more quality time to spend with our children and with ourselves.
Mindfulness helps to understand and prevent our own stress reactions. Self-compassion means remaining kind to ourselves in the midst of all the inevitable demands, difficulties and conflicts. Treating ourselves like a good friend even when things don’t go the way we want is an attitude that can be learned and deepened.
Neuroscientific insights are conveyed about ancient automatic reaction patterns of our parent brain in stress. This provides a new perspective on the everyday demands placed on us as parents. Cultivation of positivity changes our brain and our ways of reacting.
Sharing experiences in the course with other parents is very supportive and allows us to experience shared humanity. Exercises to do at home offer new perspectives and promote self-care, sharing and serenity, in good times as well as in difficult times.
Exercises as well as meditations show how to recognise our autopilot. This creates space to control ourselves more consciously and to manage parenting stress reactions more helpfully. A friendly and compassionate attitude towards ourselves (and others) is developed, especially for those moments when nothing seems to work and we feel overwhelmed.
We recommend to listen to this podcast allowing you to learn more about what mindful compassionate parenting is about and it is a chance to get to know a bit more Paola and Peter.
